"The most important element that one kept in mind while designing the wardrobe for Amitabh Bachchan was that he is an ageless star! Unlike several others, his persona has to be kept in mind while designing for him. I wanted him to look graceful, slick but not 'too' designed, " Bajaj, who has been in the fashion industry for over two decades, said in a press statement.
The suave designer says he ended up giving 67-year-old Amitabh a classic look for the show, which will air on Sony TV starting Oct 11.
"I made him clothes that are more sartorial than 'gimmicky'. We used dark colours mostly, with touches or hints of sharp colours coming through from the accessories. Of course, when it come to Amitabh Bachchan only the best materials can work...so the finest of silk velvets, fine light wools, finest Swiss cottons for shirts and handmade silk ties were used, " he said.
According to Bajaj, Amitabh duly took out time for fittings from his busy schedule.
"We did extensive fitting sessions with him, for which he especially took time out, because he and I are both perfectionists and wanted everything to fit to the 'T'. When I met him the first time, I had told him that I am going to make him a 'wardrobe' and not costumes, I am going to make clothes that are of the high quality you are accustomed to wearing, so all stops have been pulled for this one, " he added.
A special festive look has also been designed by Bajaj for Amitabh, which he will be sporting during Diwali in November.
"He will be wearing slightly more ethnic clothes, but with a contemporary touch because he is a very very contemporary man, " Bajaj said.
